Good morning or good evening everyone, depending on what time you’re reading this post. I’m writing from the usual hostel lounge that’s hosting me for these first days in Tokyo. This is day three, and below I’ll tell you, with my usual light touch, a couple of things I did today, so you can get a sense of the beauty I’m experiencing right now.

Day 3 started a bit behind schedule because of sleep. My brothers and I were really groggy this morning, so between one thing and another we took our time. But that’s totally fine: in the end, we’re not forced to wake up early, we have time to do everything. As usual, we got up and headed straight to the 7Eleven near the hostel to grab breakfast. Mine this morning was the following: a smoothie one of those you definitely see on TikTok made with yogurt and red berries, and something to eat: a “cylinder” with egg and mayo. I don’t know if it’s called a cylinder in other parts of the world too; it’s basically an egg sandwich, to give you an idea. I have to say the breakfast was great, so every morning I’ll probably keep the tradition of getting a smoothie in a different flavor. Maybe tomorrow I’ll try another sandwich or something similar, always savory though sweet stuff gets old for me really fast.

After breakfast we headed to the nearby station and took a train to Asakusa, a neighborhood a bit outside the center of Tokyo, so it feels quite traditional and typical. Really nice, and full of temples and things like that. I ate a so called “melon bun,” and I honestly have no idea why it’s called that, since it has nothing to do with melon, but it was good anyway. After that we went into this huge temple, and I also donated 100 yen to draw a little fortune paper that would decide whether the future would be lucky or not. Spoiler: obviously unlucky. So I had to tie the paper to some hanging strings and leave it there, hoping it would be purified. Let’s hope the universe is on my side.

With not a little disappointment, after the temple we visited a really, really nice street full of small shops selling products for restaurants and, of course, also for regular people, but mostly high end items for professional kitchens. For example, there was an amazing shop selling extremely beautiful and expensive knives, the kind you’d hardly ever see in a home kitchen.

After who knows how many steps, we moved on to the classic district for manga, video games, retro gaming, electronics, and everything related to that world: Akihabara. I have to say that, so far, it’s been the most specialized neighborhood of all. The others had a bit of everything; this one was really just anime, manga, and so on. As usual, I didn’t buy anything, because my brain now overthinks every purchase, and since none of these things are things I truly need, I ended up buying nothing.

Finally, the evening ended in a small restaurant in Shinjuku that mainly served ramen. So I got exactly that, plus a portion of gyoza. At this point, wherever I find them I order them out of tradition, because they’re always way too good. A couple of walks here and there through the streets of Shinjuku, and then we went back to the hostel, stopping by 7Eleven to buy a Pokémon pack and an ice cream. After a hot shower and then making a really nice cup of chamomile milk, here I am writing these few lines while exporting all the files from my camera from today, so I can start editing something once I’m back.

And that’s it for today. We’ll catch up again tomorrow, when I’ll be visiting the city of Kamakura it’s obviously going to be amazing. In the meantime, I’ll say goodbye. Bye everyone <33
